Ok, the situation is not complicated. I am just trying to transfer a brf file from this computer to the braille lite, though there are a few barriers...
1. I don't have a disk drive, and neither the legal status or the prizes to accept such robbery (to buy one) are available to me. THis means that no, i can't ask the college to get me one, or any of the federal government agencies or whatever else.
However, I do have several other things Since i had a braille 'n speak before. THis means that i can hook the serial cable almost to any serial port available. However, I have tried this and windisk is not working for me for some reason or another and i went by what the settings was in the manuals. Now, i know that this particular braille lite can read flashcards, and i have a USB converter. HOwever, when I put the flashcards into the reader it says no card. i have gotten the small cards, like the 32 mb ones and formatted using the sectors they had specified (i think its fat16) and still, no card. I formatted them in every way i could think of... 32 fat, 64 fat, TC ETC. Tried out various sizes and nothing, the flashcards wouldn't work.... So, are there any suggestoins> I am not sure how much a repair would be (and I doubt they are ever going to repair these) since freedom scientific being money starving decides to screw it up for many peopel by simply calling a product outdated. I was thinking of getting the ps2 or srial cable that would match this computer, but i am not sure if there is anything besides windisk that can help me transfer things back and forth.. or would be there anything i could do to get the flash cards working in some way? Trust me, carrying this huge book of music into a laptop bag.. is not the best thing to do, especially when you're going to learn a piece that takes up a few braille pages.

OK, a few questions.
What type of Braille Lite is this? Millennium? 640. You say it has a flash card slot? Like a compact flash? CF?
The older units did not, and I am not sure about the millennium.

Why do you think WinDisk is not working? Do you have your serial cable plugged into the port closest to the AC socket. I gather your serial port is on from status menu, are you getting a response from your serial cable at all?

If indeed the Braille Litedoes accept cf cards, you would want the smallest card possible and format it as fat.
I don't know how useful this has been, but it has been about 7 years since I touched a braille lite.

Cheers
